CyberKnife treatment in India costs roughly USD 4,000 to USD 7,000 for a full course. It is a form of robotic radiosurgery, and it delivers the whole treatment in just one to five sessions rather than twenty or thirty.

That single fact changes the economics of the trip. A one-to-two week stay costs far less in flights, hotel and time off work than a two-month course.

CyberKnife is not right for everyone, though. It suits small, well-defined tumours — and this page is honest about when it does not apply.

What CyberKnife Costs in India


A full CyberKnife course in India costs approximately USD 4,000 to USD 7,000, or about ₹3.4–6 lakh. The price covers the whole treatment, not one session, and most patients need only one to five sessions.

Per session, CyberKnife looks expensive. Per course, it lands close to IMRT — because you are buying three sessions rather than thirty.

That is the single most misunderstood thing about its price, and it is why comparing "cost per session" between techniques tells you almost nothing useful.

One line worth asking about is fiducial markers. For some lung, liver, pancreas and prostate tumours, tiny gold markers are placed first so the robot can track the target.

That is a small separate procedure with its own cost, and it is rarely mentioned in headline quotes.

Why Published Prices Contradict Each Other


Published CyberKnife prices in India range from about ₹80,000 to ₹15 lakh, which looks impossible until you realise some figures are per session and others cover the whole course. Always confirm which one you are being quoted.

This is not a small discrepancy. We have seen a single hospital page headline a figure under ₹1 lakh, then state ₹5–15 lakh in its own FAQ further down the same page.

Neither number is dishonest. One is a session rate, the other a full treatment package — but a patient comparing two websites has no way of knowing which is which.

Three questions cut through it. Is this per session or for the full course? How many sessions does it assume? And does it include planning, imaging and any markers?

Every figure on this page is for a complete course, planning included. That is the only basis on which two quotes can sensibly be compared.

If a price looks far too low

It is almost always a per-session rate, or a figure that excludes planning and imaging. Ask for the total course cost in writing before you compare it with anything else.

Cost by Tumour Site


CyberKnife costs roughly USD 4,000–6,000 for brain tumours, USD 4,500–6,500 for lung and liver tumours, and USD 5,000–7,000 for prostate cancer. Sites that move with breathing usually need tracking markers, which adds cost.

The site matters more than the size here. A brain lesion sits still; a liver tumour moves several centimetres with every breath, and that complexity shows up in the price.

What CyberKnife Is and How It Works


CyberKnife is a robotic radiosurgery system. A small linear accelerator mounted on a robotic arm moves around the body, delivering many precisely aimed beams from hundreds of angles while imaging tracks the tumour as it moves.

Despite the name, there is no knife and no incision. It is radiation, delivered with enough accuracy that it can substitute for surgery in selected cases.

The robotic arm is what sets it apart. A standard machine rotates on one axis around you; the CyberKnife arm can approach from almost any direction, which is why it handles awkward positions well.

The arm moves on six joints and positions the beam to sub-millimetre accuracy, which is what allows treatment close to the spinal cord or optic nerves.

The second difference is tracking. X-ray images are taken throughout the session, and if you shift or breathe, the robot adjusts in real time rather than pausing.

That live correction is why no rigid head frame is needed, and why lung and liver tumours are treatable at all.

Because the targeting is so tight, a much higher dose can be given each time — which is exactly why the course collapses from thirty sessions to a handful.

CyberKnife vs Gamma Knife


Gamma Knife treats the brain and upper spine with the head held in a fixed frame. CyberKnife uses a robotic arm to treat tumours anywhere in the body and tracks them as they move. Neither is simply better — they suit different problems.

This is the comparison patients search for most, and the answer is genuinely about location rather than quality.

Approximate. Some modern Gamma Knife systems use a mask rather than a pinned frame — ask the centre which they use.

If your tumour is a small brain lesion, Gamma Knife is often the more established choice and may cost slightly less. For anything outside the head, CyberKnife is usually the relevant option.

CyberKnife vs IMRT, SBRT and Proton Therapy


CyberKnife is one way of delivering SBRT — stereotactic body radiotherapy. Compared with IMRT it uses far fewer sessions at a similar total cost, and compared with proton therapy it is dramatically cheaper and far more widely available.

Worth clearing up: CyberKnife is a brand of machine, not a separate category of treatment. Other machines also deliver stereotactic radiotherapy.

Look at the stay column rather than just the cost column. On total trip spend, CyberKnife often beats IMRT even though the treatment fee is higher.

Other machines deliver comparable stereotactic treatment. Systems such as TrueBeam and Novalis are high-precision linear accelerators that many Indian centres use for the same purpose.

Beyond radiation, the alternatives depend on the condition — open surgery for larger tumours, brachytherapy for some prostate cancers, and drug treatments where disease has spread.

Who CyberKnife Suits — and Who It Doesn't


CyberKnife suits small, well-defined tumours, usually under about five centimetres, and a limited number of them. It is not suitable for large tumours, widely spread disease, or cancers needing treatment of a broad area such as lymph node regions.

We would rather be direct about this than let anyone travel expecting a treatment they cannot have.

Usually suitable. Small brain tumours or a few brain metastases, early-stage lung cancer in patients unfit for surgery, spine tumours, some liver and pancreatic tumours, and localised prostate cancer.

Also used for a tumour that has returned in an area already treated with radiation, where the precision allows a second attempt.

Usually not suitable. Large tumours, cancer that has spread widely, and cases where a whole region needs treating rather than a defined target.

Practical limits too. You need to lie still for 30 to 90 minutes at a time. Radiation is also generally avoided in pregnancy.

Size is the usual deciding factor. Tumours much above five or six centimetres are generally treated another way.

If a facilitator promises CyberKnife before any oncologist has read your scans, treat that as a warning sign. Suitability is a clinical decision, not a sales one.

Non-Cancer Conditions CyberKnife Treats


CyberKnife also treats benign and functional conditions, not only cancer. These include trigeminal neuralgia, arteriovenous malformations, acoustic neuromas and meningiomas — conditions where surgery carries significant risk.

Most cost pages ignore this entirely, which is a shame, because for some of these conditions radiosurgery is the reason patients travel at all.

Trigeminal neuralgia. Severe facial nerve pain. A single radiosurgery session can target the nerve root without an operation, and is often considered when medication stops working.

Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). Abnormal tangles of blood vessels in the brain. Radiosurgery causes them to close off gradually over months or years.

Acoustic neuroma and meningioma. Benign tumours near critical nerves where open surgery risks hearing loss or nerve damage.

Costs for these sit broadly in the same range as brain tumour treatment, though a single-session functional treatment often falls at the lower end.

Sessions, Stay Length and Why It Saves Money


A CyberKnife course is one to five sessions given over about a week, each lasting 30 to 90 minutes. International patients usually need one to two weeks in India, against six to nine weeks for a conventional course.

For someone travelling from abroad, this is where the real saving sits — and almost no cost page explains it properly.

Because CyberKnife delivers the dose in one to five sessions, the trip shortens from around two months to about a fortnight — which changes the total cost of treatment abroad more than the treatment fee does.

Run the arithmetic. Seven weeks of accommodation at USD 45 a night is roughly USD 2,200; ten nights is about USD 450. That gap is larger than the difference in treatment fees.

Add food, transport, and weeks of lost income for you and whoever travels with you, and the shorter course often wins on total cost despite the higher headline price.

Sessions are usually given on alternate days rather than back to back, so allow a little longer than the session count suggests.

Budget about three to five days at the start for consultation, scans, any marker placement and planning before the first session.

What's Inside the Price — and What Isn't


A CyberKnife package usually covers the consultation, planning CT with MRI fusion, the immobilisation mask, treatment planning, quality checks and all sessions. It usually excludes diagnostic scans, fiducial marker placement, side-effect management and accommodation.

Fiducial markers are the line item to watch. If your tumour needs them, that is a separate day procedure with its own charge.

What Actually Happens, Step by Step


CyberKnife involves a consultation, sometimes fiducial marker placement, a planning CT with MRI fusion, computer planning, then the sessions themselves. There is no anaesthetic, no incision and no hospital admission.

1. Consultation. The oncologist confirms your tumour is suitable, and decides the dose and number of sessions.

2. Markers, if needed. For some lung, liver, pancreas or prostate tumours, tiny gold markers are placed as a short day procedure so the robot can track the target.

3. Simulation. A planning CT is taken, often merged with an MRI, and a soft mask or body cradle is made. No frame is pinned to the skull.

4. Planning. The team designs a plan using hundreds of possible beam angles, then quality-checks it on the machine before anything is delivered.

5. Treatment. You lie still while the robotic arm moves around you. It is painless, you stay awake, and you go back to your hotel afterwards.

6. Review and follow-up. A check before you fly home, then follow-up imaging some weeks or months later to assess response.

Side Effects, Recovery and Follow-Up


CyberKnife side effects are usually mild and short-lived — most often fatigue, and effects specific to the area treated. Because there is no incision and no anaesthetic, most patients return to normal activity within a day or two.

If any symptom feels severe, comes on suddenly, or frightens you, contact your care team straight away rather than waiting for the next appointment.

Effects depend on the site treated. Brain treatment can cause headache or tiredness; lung or liver treatment can cause temporary fatigue or local discomfort.

One thing to expect: because the dose is high and concentrated, tissue around the target can react over the following weeks even though treatment felt easy at the time.

Response is assessed on follow-up imaging weeks or months later, not immediately. A tumour that has been treated successfully may take time to shrink on a scan.

Practically, you are usually observed for a short period after each session, then discharged. Some patients feel tired or slightly dizzy afterwards and prefer not to travel alone.

Rest and fluids help in the days that follow. Light activity is fine; heavy exertion is best left for a few days.

One site-specific point: if a tumour on or near the scalp is treated, hair in that small area may thin or fall out. It usually regrows over the following months.

Longer-term follow-up is typically at three to six months with repeat imaging, and blood tests for certain cancers.

For a one-to-two week CyberKnife trip, budget roughly USD 20–100 a night for accommodation, USD 8–15 a day per person for food, and USD 3–8 a day for transport — typically USD 400–1,500 in total on top of treatment.

Because the stay is short, hotel choice matters less to the overall budget than it does for a two-month course. Many families choose comfort over economy here.

CyberKnife costs about USD 4,000–7,000 in India, against roughly USD 20,000–60,000 privately in the United States and tens of thousands of pounds in the UK. The machine is the same system made by the same manufacturer.

That last point matters. CyberKnife is a single proprietary system, so a unit in Delhi runs the same technology as one in London or New York.

Where CyberKnife Is Available in India


CyberKnife is available at a limited number of Indian centres, mainly in the major metros. Unlike IMRT, which almost every cancer centre offers, robotic radiosurgery requires a dedicated system, so your choice of hospital is narrower.

This is an important practical difference. You cannot assume the hospital nearest your preferred city has one.

A note on machine names

Some centres offer stereotactic treatment on a standard linear accelerator rather than a CyberKnife. For many tumours that is clinically equivalent. Ask what is proposed and why — not simply whether the brand name is available.
