Dr. Sonia Nankani is a consultant ophthalmologist and Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Gleneagles Hospital, Parel, Mumbai. With over 14 years of clinical experience, she is known for her expertise in cataract surgery — including the injection-free, sutureless, no-patch phaco-emulsification technique — as well as LASIK eye surgery and corneal transplantation. She performs both penetrating and lamellar corneal grafts, and has made history as the first surgeon in Maharashtra to carry out the Tooth in Eye Surgery (Modified Osteo Odonto Keratoprosthesis), a rare and complex procedure that has restored vision to patients with advanced bilateral corneal disease. She was also the first surgeon in Mumbai to perform limbal stem cell transplant surgery in a child using autologous cultivated stem cells — a landmark moment in pediatric eye care.

Dr. Nankani completed her MBBS and MS in Ophthalmology, and went on to receive specialised retina training at the prestigious L.V. Prasad Eye Institute.
