Dr. Sonali Bhagwat

Dr. Sonali Bhagwat is a Senior Consultant in General, Laparoscopic, and Breast Surgery at Gleneagles Hospital, Mumbai, with a career spanning nearly three decades. She has built a reputation for tackling a wide range of surgical conditions — from gallbladder and hernia repairs to colorectal, endocrine, and complex breast procedures — with precision and genuine care for her patients.

Her academic foundation is exceptional. Dr. Bhagwat earned a Gold Medal from the University of Mumbai for topping her final MBBS Surgery examination in 1992, and went on to top her MS (General Surgery) as well in 1997. She later became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh (FRCS), a Fellowship that reflects internationally recognised surgical training and standards. She also holds fellowships in Minimally Invasive Surgery (FMAS) and from the International College of Surgeons (FICS).

Beyond the operating room, Dr. Bhagwat has a deep commitment to surgical education. She has served as a Lecturer and Associate Professor in Surgery, and currently guides postgraduate students for the FMAS fellowship through MUHS. She was part of the pioneering team that introduced single-port laparoscopic surgery, and she set up the Comprehensive Breast Health Service at Gleneagles Hospital — a dedicated programme offering holistic breast care under one roof.
